PC Magazine - Microsoft Rolls Out Windows Vista Beta 1Microsoft Corp. officially released the first beta for the long- and eagerly-awaited Windows operating system update (formerly codenamed Longhorn).
The Redmond, WA-based software giant has released technology builds before, but this is the first true beta release. The company expects beta testers to pound on it until it releases Beta 2 early next year.
There will likely be a number of other interim releases during this time, with the expected final launch of the new operating system to happen in late 2006.
Beta 1 offers testers a detailed look at the new interface, security features, and Internet Explorer 7. There are numerous under-the-hood enhancements as well. Both the operating system and browser, for example, will offer integrated RSS support.
